Prof. S. K. Sharma has a vast experience of Academia, Research and Development, Human Resource Development, Industries and Administration spread over about three decades. He earned his Ph. D. degree from Kurukshetra University under the noble guidance and joint supervision of Prof. A. P. Sharma (Emeritus Scientist of CSIR, New Delhi) and Prof Shyam Kumar (Dean of Science and Engineering, K.U., Kurukshetra).
After starting his career from Kurukshetra University, Dr. Sharma has worked in some of the premier institutions of learning in the region like A.M.U., Aligarh, G.N.D. University, Amritsar, N.I.T, Kurukshetra M. M. U., Mullana and many Engineering Institutions. Dr Sharma has held important academic and Research positions like scientist, Principal and Director etc. successfully. He has been a founder member of many academic/technical institutions in the region. He is a Member of several academic bodies like member of Executive Council of Nuclear Track Society of India, Life member Society for Scientific Values (SSV), Life Member Indian Association for Physics Teachers (IAPT) Secretary, Vigyan Bharti, Haryana etc.
Since July 2015, Dr. Sharma is holding an Academic honor of being Chairman, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Ambala Sub-Centre (Haryana). He has successfully completed a large number of in-house research and development projects. He has about 62 research publications to his credit in National & International Journals. He attended twenty eight National/International conferences/Summer schools/workshops till date. His areas of research interest include Basic and Applied aspects of Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors, Stopping Power and Range Measurements of Heavy ions in solids, besides nanotechnology. He has actively contributed to many research projects like Search of super heavy elements in nature using meteoritic crystal funded by CSIR, New Delhi (India) at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and A.M.U., Aligarh; Single pore sensor for water pollution funded by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India at G.N.D. University, Amritsar; Calibration and validation of data products obtained from remote sensing satellites funded by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bangalore (India) and Web based engineering education system: a consortium for technical institutes funded by MHRD, New Delhi (India) at National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra.
Presently, he is working on Synthesis and characterization of nano/micro structures for device fabrications as recently he had been awarded a major research project entitled Synthesis of nano materials and their applications by Government of India, Ministry of Defence, DRDO, New Delhi. Development and characterization of nano-/micro structures (IUAC, New Delhi) in collaboration with NIT, Kurukshetra. One minor research project entitled Development and characterization of nano/micro structures awarded by IUAC, New Delhi is under progress. He has supervised four research scholars for the award of M. Phil. Degree and one for Ph. D. degree., Besides this, he has successfully guided 16 minor projects to post graduate students.
